Aboard! This month's newsletter will take you one
step closer to being ready for certification by The
Joint Commission (TJC). We're going to take a look at
one of the most significant standards for health care
staffing agencies - HUMAN RESOURCES. At a recent
breakfast briefing, Michele Sacco, MS, executive
director, The Joint Commission Certification Health Care
Staffing Services, couldn't stress enough the importance
of having everything in place for this critical
standard. She stated that: "During the review process,
the focus will be on competency. Only the strictest
standards will apply."
The message is clear;
there is no room for error here.
*This summer, JCAHO will be phasing out this
acronym and using TJC - The Joint Commission, which will
be their new brand identity.
Enjoy
the journey!

Time To Get On
Track!
Getting this right is important. Why? Because it
lets your clients know that you provide only the
most qualified and competent supplemental staff to
health care organizations.
Among the areas TJC will be reviewing are: How are
you handling the human resources component of your
agency? What are your processes for matching the skills
of temporary staff with a health care organization's
needs? How do you determine competencies, verify
credentials? What tools do you use for background and
health screening checks? What is your program for
ongoing professional development? Do you have job
descriptions in place for corporate and field staff?
It seems daunting, doesn't it? No need to
worry! |
Magnetic
HealthCare Strategies (MHS) to the Rescue!
In our last issue we talked about the Gap Analysis and its
usefulness in determining your readiness for
certification. Human Resource
processes are some of the elements of this
analysis. We will check your internal documents,
policies, and personnel files. If necessary,
MHS will make recommendations for
improvement.
MHS can do a Tracer, which follows an
applicant from entry into the system to placement in the
health care setting. We will be asking your staff
appropriate questions to determine that all
processes are in place, consistent, and most
importantly, compliant.
We can do a Mock
Survey, a portion of which will
be an intense review of 20 to 30 personnel files to
ascertain any inadequacies in your record keeping
system. This exercise will be scored to determine what
actions need to be taken to ensure total
compliance.
MHS has a variety of Templates that can be
customized and adapted to your agency's processes,
i.e., internal policies, fact sheets for education
and staff, and many more.
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? By
now you know that certification by The Joint Commission
sets you apart from your competition. It is a
tangible signal to customers that your firm has met
rigorous criteria for providing appropriate and
competent staffing services.
Another plus for you when marketing your agency
is that when your hospital clients prepare for
their TJC certification visit, it should go much
smoother for them knowing that their agency
personnel are from an agency that has been
certified by TJC.
